What is an animal mill?

Pretty much any animal can be milled, also known as excessively and cruelly breeding an animal, to produce lots of offspring, in order to make money, by selling animals to testing facilities, pet-shops, and people. The puppy and kitten mill industry is actually a multi-million business. The milling manufacture consists of breeding two animals, until they are too old to reproduce, or to the day they die. The babies are then locked into cramped kennels and cages, where disease, non-sanitary conditions, starvation, and dehydration are plentiful. Even though dogs and cats are vastly overpopulated, puppy and kitten mills continue, and are even the main source of kittens and puppies in pet shop. Did you know, that it is estimated over 90% of kittens come from ktten mills?!

Do NOT buy animals from mills, even if your intention is to rescue them. It only encourages these businesses to continue mass producing pets. Make adoption your first option! Adoption is getting a pet that has been rescued, usually from a shelter.
